THE EBOLA ORPHANED CHILDREN STORY! I am Christophe Dahn (first from the left, named changed), a 13 year old fifth grade student with two younger sisters and a brother. Our mother and father died from Ebola. We are survivors of the merciless Ebola virus too. We were originally living in Ganta City, Nimba County, Liberia. But upon our return from the ETU (Inland Clinic) in Monrovia, we came to Saclepea City, Nimba County, Liberia because our both parents died. So, the four of us are currently living with our Aunty (mother sister) and husband along with their eight children. I don’t know where our father’s family is but they are aware that papa and mama have died. Coming from Monrovia here was hard because one doctor that supposed to send the bus for us did not send it so we came by commercial bus. That doctor made me feel bad. Since we came, things have been very hard because all of our clothes, mattress were burned including our playing things. We only play in our yard because our friends are afraid of us. Even to find food is hard because our aunty and husband who are teachers are no longer working. My sisters always asked me Where are mama and Papa? And I tried to tell them that we will not see mama and papa again. And our four year old brother (Nell-name changed, next to chris from the left) is always crying to see mama. I don’t know what to do, but I have to pretend at times to give little hopes to my sisters and brother. I am also worried about school because I know our aunty has no money to buy our school materials and pay fees. I want to go to school because I want to be a doctor. I think I am a doctor already because at the ETU, I was used to open IV, take blood, hang medicine and take temperature since I survived the virus. These even cause us to stay longer at the ETU because I was helping. I did all of them good because the doctors told me thanks after I did them. Plenty people use to come at the ETU, but the white people came and only took photos and they were always afraid. Since we came, no one is helping us beside our aunty and the woman from CHESS who comes and tell good good things that make us feel good to forget about what has happened. A Story from CHESS-Liberia Psychosocial Team.
