THE FAITH OF THE UB STUDENTS IN A SILENT SOCIETY Hi every body Like most Cameroonians, I believe in the universal declaration of human rights which give each individual the right to freedom of expression. We have a strong tradition of believing in our cultures, and the vast majority of hand clappers to the regime are acting irresponsibly to these rights of ours and now our brothers and sisters are lamenting in prison without trial. Worst of all the United nation higher commissioner for human rights was in Cameroon did not mentioned the case or plight of the students even though she is seen as the guarantor of the universal declaration of human rights. Now the secretary general for common wealth is in the country under strict guidelines on what to say and what not to say about detention without trial as a common practice in Cameroon. The government is inviting all these top international figures in reaction to one of our articles callings for the international organizations to suspend Cameroon’s membership for suppressing freedom of expression this is what we term “shady diplomacy”. But I also believe most Cameroonians will agree with me that we should not only points fingers to the international community when our own journalist are even scare to raise the Buea university students issue in press conferences or in articles. Worst of all they cannot make news out of the whole situation, this attitude of “stomach journalism “is very common in Cameroon. How long will Cameroonians condone this suppression while keeping an irresponsible, law-breaking few from causing harm to our people on a massive scale? These are the ills our reforms are designed to eliminate. None of this will be easy. Already, we’re seeing pundits, politicians, and special-interest lobbyists calling any attempt at commonsense reform an all-out assault on the regime – not because that’s true, but because that’s how they get recognition for political appointments, invited to parties, place incompetent relatives in professional schools and help in the social degradation of the country. And behind the scenes, they’re doing everything they can to protect the status quo of the regime. But this time, it can’t be up to them. It’s got to be up to you and Afrihuricam. If, like me, you want this time to be different, then I need your help to make it different. Ask your friends, brothers and sisters if they support freedom of expression. And if the answer is no, ask them why not. Ask them why a four advance level A-grade holder in sciences is unable to gain entrance into a medical school in Cameroon while people with two are Advance- level with C-grade are practicing as students medical doctors. Last week a student from Higher teachers training collage died in the hospital after collapsing and was given Dextrose it turn out that this student was diabetic : Many young people have died this same way in Cameroon for the past thirty years. This is the country we are living in where negligence is the order of the day and there is no chance for excellence; are we ready to seat and watch or flee our homeland if that is the case then let die will be done. The students in Jail are now living in excess protein and lack of exercise has resulted in the conversion of this protein into body sugar. They risk developing high blood sugar and eventually be given dextrose as first line of defense in the hospital in the event of an emergency and might suffer the faith of death. Lets together if not fight for change but get those students release. Thanks, and have a great week Interim Head of Change J.A.M.
