THE FOOLISHLY ARROGANT WORDS OF THE WICKED MAN (Psalm 10) The Psalmist gives us a portrait of the godless, atheistic man of his day. The 10th Psalm reveals their very words they say. 1) They say, The is no God, Psalm 10:1. The 14th Psalm says they are fools who say this, 14:1. In all of his thoughts, hes essentially declaring there is no God. He has no room for God in his life. If there is no God, there is no morality to govern them. The words are an example of the wish being father to the thought. It says, There is no moral God because I dont wish there to be. Foolish. I was speaking to my orthopedic doctor and asked him about the diagram of the human anatomy that hung on the door. I asked him if he was religious and what did he think of the picture. He said that the more you study it, the more you are convinced there is a God. 2) They say, I shall not be moved, Psalm 10:6. Compare with Psalm 12:4 that says of the ungodly, Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?” To the One that is the First Mover, the Creator, the one that is Omni-potent, they declare that no power shall move them. Dangerous words are these for any man to say. An Aesops Fable illustrates this: A fir tree said boastingly to the bramble bush growing in its shade: You are useless. Nobody wants you. I am everywhere used for roofs and houses. Men can’t do without me. You’re so right, said the bramble. Here’s a man coming to you with an axe, right now. Farewell. When men boast in their own flesh, God says to them that pride goeth before a fall. This is the moment that you start looking for lightning bolts. Such people think they can do and say whatever they wish as if it is they who are all-powerful. But God is taking note and judgment will come upon them. And they shall be moved and will give an account for their words, Mt. 12:36,37. 3) They say, God has forgotten, Psalm 10:11. Though it sounds contradictory to be coming from the same ones that say there is no God, it is because such people are contradictory. Sometimes they are denying God and other times they are invoking the name of God. As he says in Psalm 5:9, There is nothing reliable in what they say. IN their soul they know they are committing evil when they do harm to the innocent and so they lie to themselves. Psalm 94:7 says, They have said, “The LORD does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob pay heed.” I wonder how many of Gods children today are following their lusts, and they hope and pray that Gods not paying attention? But God has no forgotten. God sees and remembers the deeds of the godless. 4) They say, You will not require it, Psalm 10:13. Looking at the Hebrew word there, I think the idea behind their word require is that God wont look into it and judge them. In these words, David says they spurn God. I believe the idea here is like what we read in Psalm 59:7, that says they do ungodly things and say, Who hears? They think they wont be judged. No one will call on them to account for their immorality. But God will require it of them. Sinful men will find out that God cares about the immorality they commit.
