THE IDOMI INTEREST IN CRHA SEAT. It is not unconnected with the desire to serve after been served and the privileges of basic sociopolitical principles of equity, justice and fairness. Besides being the ancestral home of yakurr aka lotanpon, Idomi has more than enough personalities with the required capacity to run for an elective office at any level. However, it becomes pathetic when her political strength is compared with two major communities Ugep and Ekori sharing a common elective office. Idomi does not need to be reminded of this or her status as a one ward community. Of course the later is perceived as a divine design and not a misfit. Incontrovertibly, Idomi like any other community serves as a missing link of the yakurr entity. Its complimentary role in giving yakurr her pride of place especially in tradition, religion and of course politics is obvious in the history of yakurr. A great percentage of the yakurr people are today clamouring for a deliberate shift of the assembly seat to IDOMI. This is informed by the simple understanding of the basic sociopolitical principles mentioned above. As expected, the greedy ones see no adequate reason why IDOMI should be given a chance be it on the basis of zoning or whatever. Those who belong to this school of thought define justice, equity and fairness simply as the survival of the fittest. For them, majority takes it. The intriguing question is, why should power struggle suffice amidst unequal strengths? The political imbalance from the carving of wards should be considered first before throwing all wards into the same political ring. If I had my way the one ward IDOMI would have been a ward in a larger community of wards or more wards carved out of it using whatever categories or inputs as a way of solving the derogatory numerical stigma when compared with her sisters in constituency one. But this is not just a hard nut to crack, it is according to my funny friend an impossicant as a stress. Hope is not lost for Idomi as the political wind of zoning will blow her side given the focus it is having on the northern Cross River ever craving for the office of a governor. My other worry that begs for the attention of the good people of yakurr is the perceived political gimmicks played by our political gladiators. They have under various shapes of pretence argued controversially for and at the same time against zoning the Assembly seat to Idomi depending on their audience. Throwing away equity and social as well as moral values is not a task for them. Keeping these values could kill or hinder the thriving of personal interest. For them altruism is not a factor or an instrument of politics at this stage. Calculations are therefore driven by personal gains. To buttress the case for Idomi one may reflect on the crucial political role this one ward community had played since 1999. To mention but a few is the usual 100% support for PDP in all elections leading to victory in yakurr even where other bigger communities disagree among themselves. Also is the political doggedness the community possesses. Yet power sharing is often a second thought for IDOMI to benefit from. Now Idomi is soliciting the unreserved cooperation of Ugep and Ekori who have had two shots of 4years each at the state assembl that is, 8 years apiece. Should Ugep take it again or round up all four wards then Ekori shall want to round up all three wards. When then shall Idomi have it? May reason overthrow passion and be our brothers keeper by giving Idomi a sense of belonging to share in what is theirs. Long live YAKURR, long live constituency one.
