THE LADDER OF SUCCESS The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be under tribute. (Proverb 12:24). There is a sure and steady way to rise in the ladder of life. This is the way of diligence in common duties of life. Many are waiting until a big task is entrusted upon their shoulders before they can prove their mettle. They assume that you can only demonstrate diligence when you are entrusted with greater responsibilities. Such people realize too late that they have missed great chances to imprint their values on the sands of time. For others, they are waiting for what people regard as important assignments before they apply themselves to diligence. They fail to recognize that it is the small and common duties of life that develop character and shape the society. The person who succeeds in life is the one who does these common duties uncommonly. A responsible boy will weed his surroundings, wash his clothes, wash the family car and do his homework very well. A nice girl will keep the house tidy, help mummy in the kitchen, and face her studies squarely. She seeks for better ways of achieving better results. Joseph performed the tasks of a slave very well that he was recognized by his master; he even so impressed in the prison that he was noted by his fellow prisoners and prison authorities as extraordinary. Little but common duties of kindness to others, compliments to others, personal hygiene and respect for others are sure steps to climb up the ladder of success. A message faithfully delivered, an account of money honestly given, a report of events sincerely given are all common duties that lead to promotion. Therefore, dare to stand out of the crowd today by doing the common things uncommonly. Apply yourself only to excellence, and add the needed extras to the ordinary drudgery of duties today. It is the extras that make the difference and you can do it. Put in the extra effort to get that assignment perfected, you can do it. Challenge: The person who succeeds in life is the one who does common duties uncommonly. Prayer: Lord, help me to apply myself to excellence in the little things of life
