THE LIMITEDNESS OF MAN. And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king. And he said, if the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? Out of the barn floor, or out of the winepress? 2KINGS 6:26-27 Royal family is often thought to be an haven of luxuries and unfeigned happiness, with belief that all our needs would be supplied by belonging to such family . It is always the desire of everyone to be numbered with such dynasty, as it symbolizes honour and equally commands the respects from outsiders. Unfortunately, there are some inherent and unpalatable experiences that undermine royalty which remain imperceptible to those who desire such exalted position. According to our text, there came a time in land of Samaria that famine became prevalent , on the heel of the attack it suffered in the hand of Ben-hadad king of Syria. Therefore, the entire inhabitants of the land was plunged into unprecedented famine, and equally led to cannibalism among the Israelites. As the crisis lingers, many heartbreaking allegations in connection with prevailing famine are being brought to the king for help. But the king could none of these problems provide lasting solution, since the major problem that bred the starvation and moral perversions among the people was beyond the power of king to correct- And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? And having recognized his personal weakness and limitation over the ill occurrences in the land; He wept sore and solicited for heavenly intervention through the agonizing prayer of faith for redemption. Eventually, God through the hand of the prophet heard his prayer and abundance was restored to the land. As believers, regardless of prosperity and power that we might have, we must recognize the supremacy of God over all he had created, including you and I. And thereby accord him the references and honour He deserve from us, for He is unlimited in power and prosperity. Let us concede all egos that we might be enjoying individually or collectively while we surrender all to his supreme authority. Hence, He will be willing to help and deliver us in time of trouble, as we present ourselves to him in supplications for divine intervention.
