THE LITTLE FRIEND by Donna Tartt is a 500 page novel. It is her second novel Harriet Cleve Dufresnes, a young school student, investigates the mysterious, violent death of her elder brother, Robin. She assumes a man guilty of the crime and goes after him with a help of a junior boy,Hely. At last she finds her assumptions wrong regarding the guilt of the man. Before that, a man is shot to death and another one is almost drowned. She also escapes untimely death miraculously. The death of Robin is still unsolved. Though the plot is clumsy, the reader enjoys reading the novel. A voracious reader herself, Donna Tartt passes the joy of reading to the reader. The inventiveness reminds you of R.L.Stevenson and the prose of Faulkner.
