“THE LITTLE MERMAID” BEGINS MAC-HAYDN CHILDREN’S THEATRE SEASON CHATHAM, NY – A lonely mermaid yearns for happiness out of the ocean in “THE LITTLE MERMAID”, first show of The Mac-Haydn Children’s Theatre season. This original adaptation brings new characters and fun to the well-known tale, and adds its own songs to help tell the story. Not many mer-people are left in the ocean, and Kira is lonely. She would love to be on land where she can dance and play, and perhaps meet a handsome prince. Her sea pals Stucky the Starfish, Bob the Lobster and Paddle the Sea Turtle can only try to cheer her up in her underwater home. The Sea Witch pretends to help by changing Kira’s fin to legs, in exchange for her lovely voice – a trade which may mean that she will be under an evil spell and in the ocean forever. On land, Fflapper the Crow wants to lend a wing and soon he and the sea pals are hard at work trying to break the spell and make Kira’s dreams come true. How they save the day is sure to bring laughter, and, of course, there’s a happy ending. Members of Mac-Haydn’s professional performing company cast in the show include Caitlin Wilayto (Clo-Clo in “La Cage Aux Folles”) as Kira, Eric Chambliss as Prince Evan, Jimmy Cochran (Dwayne in “9 To 5”) as Stucky and Emily Anderson (Odette in “La Cage”) as the Sea Witch. Also cast are Ed Knight of Chatham as Bob, Robyn Yonkers as Paddle, Matthew Liotine as Flapper, Gillian Hassert (Maria in “9 to 5”) as Queen Anne and Quentin Busey as King Andrew. Local youngsters Jane Fischer and Bella Waldorf will be Sea Anemones. Mac-Haydn Children’s Theatre shows perform at 10:30 on Friday and Saturday mornings. Tickets are $10.00 for children of all ages.
