THE LOVE DEDICATION. Each Monday, I post an article based on my work with LOVEABILITY: The Art of Loving and Being Loved. Todays article is called LOVE AND WATER. It features a conversa-tion with my daughter Bo. It explores the idea that love is not something to look for; it is what we are. We are not here to find love; we are here to be love. LOVE AND WATER One Sunday morning, we were all in the car on our way to visit my mum, Grandma Sally. I was driving. My daughter Bo, who was four years old at the time, was sitting next to me in the front passenger seat. My wife, Hollie, and my son, Christopher, were both sitting in the backseat. To keep Bo and Christopher happy, we were listening to (for the hundredth time) “Winnie-the-Pooh,” read by Alan Bennett. Earlier that morning I had been writing an article on self-acceptance. Hollie asked me about it. “I’m exploring the question ‘Who am I without my self-image?’” I told her. “A twist on the ‘Who am I?’ question,” said Hollie. “Yes,” I said. “I like it,” she said. “I guess what I’m really asking is ‘What are we made of?’” I said. “That’s easy,” piped up Bo. “What’s easy?” I asked. “I know what we’re made of,” she said, confidently. “Okay then, what are we made of?” I asked. “Love and water,” she said. Could it be that simple? We are simply made of love and water. How does that sound to you? It sounds pretty good to me. And the more I reflect on Bo’s idea, the more I like it. In particular, I like that love isn’t something to find, to attract, or to deserve. We are love (with a splash of water). We are what we seek. We are what we are looking for. We are the love we hope to experience in our relationships. When we know we are made of love, it makes all the difference in the world. With love, Robert Note: My book Loveability is published by Hay House. My next Loveability 3-Day workshop is at Findhorn, August 2015. findhorn.org/programmes/563/#.VGom2r6kWOI
