THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN The Magnificent Seven is an American film released on October 23, 1960, directed by John Sturges, with Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Horst Buchholz, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter and Eli Wallach in the lead roles. The film was based on Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa. The main melody of the soundtrack, composed by Elmer Bernstein, has been one of the hallmarks of the film, and was imitated by many subsequent Westerns. It is considered a classic of the Western genre, and was nominated for an Oscar for best soundtrack.
