Known as much for his flourishing 30 year old law partnership of Ajumogobia & Okeke, as for his time in public service as Minister of State for Energy (Petroleum) and Head of Nigerias delegation to OPEC (July 2007- December 2008) during which period he made the removal of subsidies on petroleum products, and deregulation of the downstream; building of strategic petroleum reserves gas utilisation, monetization & flare reduction, and alternative funding structures in the upstream petroleum sectors, in particular his priorities; Later Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (January 2009 - March 2010): Head of Nigerias delegation to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF); Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria (6 April 2010 - 29 May 2011) where as President of the UN Security Council in August 2010, he introduced a well received debate in the Council on Preventive Diplomacy. Personal Odein Ajumogobia is an Ijaw (Kalabari) from Abonnema in Rivers State. He is married to Awuneba Ajumogobia FCA (née Iketubosin) also from Abonnema, Rivers State. In his role as Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, he began serious talks with rebel groups in the oil-producing area, including the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, and in June 2007 played a key role in negotiating the release of kidnapped workers of the South Korean contracting company Daewoo. As Nigerias Minister of State for Petroleum he pushed for deregulation of the downstream sector of the oil industry. He said that deregulation would eliminate shortages of petroleum products while saving taxpayers over N687 billion in annual subsidies
