THE MAYOR SAYS IM A LIAR : HERE IS A LETTER SENT TO THE NEWS TRIBUNE. HOPEFULLY MANY MORE WILL SEND LETTERS AND STAND WITH ME. Dear Susan, I would like to let you know about my experience with LAC last year. It was a weekday, before 9AM and on my way to the dentist out of the corner of my eye I saw a dog just laying a few feet from the sidewalk on the grass next to someones driveway. I immediately stopped my car. I got out and the pup did not move, it had road rash, and a swollen lip. Not knowing how the dog would react because it was injured, I called LAC and the police. The police and LAC told me they would come out, I could leave. Kids were walking to school and neighborhood people were taking morning walks, I advised both the police and LAC I was not comfortable leaving since if this dog was hurt and a kid ran up to it something bad could happen. Well after numerous phone calls, finally around 30 minutes later, LAC pulled up. The dog was a pittie and it looked to me like it was hit by a car. I asked the long haired person where he was going to take her, and he yelled at me not to worry about it. She had cuts on her chest, her lip was torn, road rash on her face, and limped to the van. I told him I wanted to know if he will be taking her to a vet or right to the shelter because if no-one claims her I wanted to adopt her. He was beyond rude and crude. Here I am offering a home for this dog and he couldnt care less. So I got in my car drove down the block and turned around and waited to see what he was going to do. The LAC person went to the house and started banging on the door, looking in the windows. A woman from the neighborhood stopped when I was still trying to talk to LAC and told me a retired Linden cop lived in the house or rented it out, she wasnt sure which. So I am thinking if he just turns around and releases that injured dog to who-ever lives in the house....well, no-one answered so he drove away. I called Rahway Vet, they would not tell me anything because I was not the owner - I explained to them I wanted to adopt her if she wasnt claimed. This went back and forth for 7 days. I spoke to Nancy, Rahway Vet, then Nancy, Rahway Vet. I even emailed the Mayor on the response of the police and LAC and wanting to adopt this dog, no reply. Finally, I was told to call LAC to make arrangements to get the dog. The owner did not want her back. We went on a Saturday and picked up this dog and named her HOPE. She was filthy, smelled horrible and infested with fleas but gave kisses and wiggled her butt. She was happy to be out of that hellhole. When we tried to give her a bath, she was petrified of the hose!!!! and do you know why? because LAC hoses down the kennels with the dogs in them and hits them with their own feces and the water which makes them terrified. We had to use a bucket to give this poor dog a bath. Hope is now living a happy, healthy life. Every animal that is picked up by LAC should get this same chance and be treated humanely why they wait. The abuse and cruelty needs to end. Homeless pets end up in this situation because of the ignorance of humans. If we do not speak for those who cant, who will?
