(THE NAME IS TRANSLATED ACCORDING TO THE ORIGIN OF THE CITIZEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE 73 ZAMBIAN LANGUAGES: ICHISHI NI BANTU (SOLI), ICUNA ANCHU (LUNDA), LIFUCHI BATU (LUVALE)) ICHISI MBANTU (ILLA, LENJE, TONGA) NAHA KI BATU (LOZI), DZIKO NI BANTU (NGONI), INSI AWANTU (NAMWANGA), ICHALO BANTU (LALA, BEMBA) ICHALO BANTU TE FIKULWA A JUBILEE YEAR WITHOUT A CONSTITUTION; NO CABINET: NO VICE PRESIDENT, NO CABINET MINISTERS AND NO FRONT BENCH IN PARLIAMENT THE GOLDEN JUBILEE (50TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY) A TURNING POINT IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY: THE END OF AN ERA THE BEGINNING OF ANOTHER: A SMOOTH TRANSITION OF LEADERSHIP FROM THE 1964 LEADERS TO THE 2014 GENERATION OF LEADERS The Golden Jubilee is an opportunity for celebration. The dictionary meaning of Jubilee is celebration; the biblical interpretation of jubilee is a year of release from sorrows, disappointments, disillusionment. The Lusaka Agricultural Show this year was under the theme- BREAKING NEW GROUND: NEW IDEAS, NEW THINKING AND NEW BEHAVIOURS. The greatest gift our 1964 leaders can give to the people of Zambia to retire before 24th October, 2014. They have served this country for the last 50years. The children who were born in 1964 are turning 50 this year; called ‘born frees’ as they never experienced colonialism and discrimination. It is an opportune time to retire having rendered distinguished service to the nation. There is no doubt that they extremely intelligent people who have placed their faculties at the service of the nation for more than 50years, in some instances at great risk to their own person and their families. In the prime of their life, their energy and vigor allowed these great sons of our country, to discharge their duties diligently and efficiently. But the effects of time have impacted negatively on their abilities. Like the noble eagle on the flag, time has impacted negatively on its ability to discharge its duties; it flew on to the Zambian flag on 24th October, 1964, it was aged about 30years (the average of the first Cabinet). From 1964, it has carried the burdens and challenges of the nation for 50years. This year, the Eagle turns 80years. Its nobility in its flight has faded, and its ability to fly high has been greatly impaired and diminished by time. The young Eagles that were small in 1964, are now grown and mature, and have developed the ability to fly even higher. They are now more than ready to assume the role, with new techniques and ideas Since 1964, technology has advanced 100fold; the ideas and needs of the young generation have changed accordingly. Just like a medicine designed to cure, kills people when it expires, when it ‘overstays’. The young generation has a lot respect and love for these great leaders. This is why, this year 2014, is very significant to the nation. It is the year that these great sons of the our motherland have an opportunity to give the nation its greatest gift and experience since 1964; TO RETIRE. There is every virtue in retiring at the right time. It is a common principle that it is better to retire when things are good. Like 1964, the time has come for a new generation of leaders and politics; like 1964, we should be lowering the old flag –with the old eagle- and hoisting a new one with a new eagle. Lowering a flag with ahistorical message and hoisting one with a futuristic message that will re-kindle pride and patriotism. THE BRITISH KNEW WHEN THEIR TIME WAS UP It is time to spend the remaining years with their families; children and grandchildren. They have missed their attention and love as they have focused and worried about national matters. Their names are firmly etched on the history of this country. A history we now have to bring to life in literature, song, dance, arts and education. We therefore recognize the following, our leaders to provide leadership to all those who are over 70 (70+1) and those over 80(80+1) to retire from public service as we approach our golden Jubilee, 24th October, 2014 to make this independence day memorable. This decision is not about the President, it is about our leaders and their families. History will smile on those that take this timely action, ‘MAY GODS GUIDANCE BE UPON YOU’. 1. DR GUY SCOTT VICE PRESIDENT (70+1) 2. CHIEF JUSTICE CHIBESAKUNDA JUDICIARY (70+1) 3. DR KASONDE MINISTER OF HEALTH (70+1) 4. ALEXANDER CHIKWANDA FINANCE MINISTER (70+1) 5.
