THE OPEN MIC FESTIVAL-THE PILLAR OF THE CURRENT GAMBIAN SHOWBIZ They are not the first to enter the realm of promoting Gambian musicians but they have succeeded in consolidated themselves as the pillars of the Game in recent years. Like it or not, any artists who did not get their endorsement has not reach your peak. This is because they organize the biggest event in the country annually (The Open Mic Festival) which attracts over 25, 000 people at the Independence stadium in Bakau. Yes, there are other promoters and labels producing and promoting Gambian artists, the reality is that, Blacklynx has established themselves as the real deal. Besides the festival, every month, they organize an open mic in one of the regions where they scout for new talents. They are also behind the popular “Fiila TV Show” on Gambia National television (GRTS). They use both platforms to reach out to the local masses, scout for new talents and uplift the image of the already establish talents. In other words, they have branded themselves as the “Promoters of the people, for the people and by the people”. No wonder they succeed in gathering 25,000 people to the stadium featuring only Gambian artists. They don’t even think twice and are not shaken if anyone else organizes any other event featuring any other artists from any other country. That is Blacklynx. Because of the magnitude of their event, a lot of controversies surround Blacklynx and the Open Mic festival. Over the years, they have been accused of being bias in the way they select artists to perform at the Open Mic festival. They’ve also been accused of being opportunists who just want to rip off ordinary Gambians under the pretext of promoting our own.
