THE PEOPLE OF BAROTSELAND HAVE CHOSEN HOPE OVER FEAR! There is nothing to hold the people of Barotseland into enslavement whereby even Godly given attributes are taken away. The people, who have been killed, maimed, tortured, imprisoned, and interrogated by police due to their involvement in the issue of the Barotseland agreement 1964 is high. A number of people have been killed ,maimed, tortured ,imprisoned and other forms of indignities, it has to be explained that the people of Barotseland have resolved to die, if this is the only option, for their rights as is well articulated in a Luyana eulogy ; “MUFA NA SAYE NI MUTEEBA, TA LIOKWE NI MUFA NA MBUYUYU MU KANWA”, meaning “BLESSED IS THAT WHO IS PREPARED TO DIE FOR HIS POSSESSION LIKE A GOOSE IS READY TO DIE WITH A GRAIN IN ITS GULLY OR ARROYO” To this extend, the Barotse people have adopted the position that was taken by Mr. Barrack Obama during his first presidential campaign trail when he stated that; “THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE CHOSEN HOPE OVER FEAR”. This is the same position which the people of Barotseland have adopted, “TO CHOOSE HOPE OVER FEAR”, as there is nothing sweat than self-determination and freedom which is a God given gift. The Barotse people have suffered for freedom, including those who have not been physically killed or imprisoned. These pressures have been exerted on the people not as a consequence of conquest because Barotseland has never been subjected to war in order for them to join the “Unitary” State of Zambia. In taking this action, the people of Barotseland are driven by the knowledge that:” FREEDOM IS NEVER GIVEN BY THE OPPRESSOR BUT IT IS DEMANDED BY THE OPPRESSED”. The number of people who were subjected to various torturous treatments in this saga is high and should not be seen in terms of those involved in the recent skirmishes because this matter has been simmering ever since 1969 when the Barotseland Agreement was abrogated by Kaunda regime. Since the Zambian government appears to be shaken with the recent naming of Barotseland provisional government. It is correct that the net must be cast wide in order to include all those involved for the suffering can not be confined to a limited period and yet the cause of the problem is limitless. The suffering of the people cannot go in vain but that their blood and other atrocious indignities must be atoned by the freedom of Barotseland and that time for freedom has come which must be now as the Barotse people acclaim: “KI NAAKO, LIYWA LINEKI” meaning “TIME HAS COME AND IT IS NOW”. This claim is supported by the claim made at one time by the Prime Minister of Turkey in the case of Syria when he stated that: “ THE FUTURE OF SYRIA CANNOT BE BASED ON THE BLOOD OF THE PEOPLE” and in a similar fashion, “THE FUTURE OF BAROTSELAND CANNOT BE BASED ON THE BLOOD OF THE PEOPLE”. Is it fair to condemn the people of Barotseland when they crave to redeem themselves out of slavery, servitude and bondage after the abrogation of the BA 64 treaty by Zambian government? One wonders as to why people of Barotseland should be discriminated against by people who had clamored to be joined and with whom the people of Barotseland had freely agreed to live together in peace and harmony through the BA64 .Accordingly, the people of Barotseland are entitled to secure self-determination and freedom by disengaging themselves from the shackles of slavery, servitude and bondage. What we want is our Barotseland back. We won’t die without the Barotseland independence. Let me end by calling upon the Zambian president, his Excellence Michel Sata, to release the Barotseland freedom fighters, since they have committed no crime. by Barotse citizen in total support of Barotseland independence Source: Barotse post
