THE POWER OF THOUGHTS 1 “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” (Proverbs 23:7 KJV) God has given man a tool so powerful that dictates what we can do and what we cannot do. James Allen in his book “As a Man Thinketh” says, "All that we achieve and all that we fail to achieve is the direct result of our own thoughts."He likens the mind to a garden. It is either the garden is cultivated so that it brings forth good landscape or it is left uncultivated, bringing forth that which is not desirable. Whatever a man sows in his mind, that he will become. Simply said, if you deposit or planting positive things in your mind, you will be able to yield good fruit. This also applies to planting bad seeds. The actions we see outwardly are the results of what has been going on in the brain. One cannot be what he has not been feeding his mind with. It is highly impossible that good thoughts can produce bad actions, and neither can bad thoughts result in good actions. The Bible admonishes us that we need to feed our minds with right thoughts, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Roman 12:2 ESV). Remember that the brain is the battle field of two forces: good and evil, God and satan. Whereas God wants us to have pure minds that will build our characters, the devil is a saboteur who wants destroy us by controlling our thoughts, he is not interested in our wellbeing. The devil wants us to set our minds on the temporary things of this world, for he knows that in so doing we become complacent and end up not being able to discern between good and bad, not doing what God wants us to do. One Bible teacher said, “When one of those defeating thoughts enters your mind, you’ve got 5 seconds to ‘take that thought captive’. If you don’t…that thought is going to take you captive. That’s all it takes, 5 seconds.
