THE PRIMAL WOUND. Who has read this book? I just ordered it, and it arrived today. I look forward to reading it. I hear that it is a very gut-wrenching but must-read for anyone touched by adoption. I have tremendous respect for the person who referenced this book at the recent UAC conference, though she came under fire for doing so, ostensibly because the book touches on some of the negative aspects of adoption and it is offensive to some. Please. Please. Please! The problems that exist in adoption are not going to go away or be improved in any way by simply ignoring their existence. If we are going to find solutions to difficult problems we need to take those problems head on and have open, honest, professional, and courteous dialogue about how we are going to resolve them. They wont go away on their own. Pretending that ALL (or even MOST) adoptions are the best thing since sliced bread is not going to help either. Lets celebrate the adoption successes, and applaud all those who support ethical and true best-interest-based adoptions. By the same token, lets work together to reform adoption practices where it is drastically needed -- the innocent lives of these children demand nothing less than our best efforts. If you believe in a higher power, a God, or any form of universal karma....I can put it no more plainly than this: WE ALL WILL BE JUDGED FOR OUR ROLES IN THESE EFFORTS. HOW COMFORTABLE WILL YOU BE, WHAT WILL YOUR CONSCIENCE FEEL LIKE, WHEN THAT DAY COMES FOR YOU?
