THE PRINCE OF WALES, PATRON, AND PRINCESS ALEXANDRA WILL MARK THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS TRUST, 18TH DECEMBER 2014 The Prince of Wales became Patron of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in May 2014, succeeding Princess Alexandra who had been Patron since 1968. Upon undertaking the patronage The Prince of Wales said: Having for so long felt deeply about the suffering of cystic fibrosis patients, I am delighted to take on patronage of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust from Princess Alexandra in this, the Trusts 50th year. By funding ground-breaking research, improving the quality of care and providing invaluable advice and support, the Trust carries out extraordinary work on behalf of the 10,000 people with cystic fibrosis in the United Kingdom. The Prince of Wales will host a reception at Clarence House to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and to thank Princess Alexandra for her contribution. The event will be attended by friends and supporters of the Trust, including celebrity supporters Sian Lloyd and Gaby Roslin. Background: Princess Alexandra became patron of the Trust in 1968 and has supported the Trust for most of its history. Her Royal Highness opened the Leopold Muller Cystic Fibrosis Gene Research Laboratory at St Marys Hospital Medical School, London in 1993 and the Knight Centre for Cystic Fibrosis at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey in 2002. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity making a daily difference to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis, and those who care for them. Established in 1964 the charity is dedicated to promoting excellence in research and clinical care, as well as providing practical support and advice to people with cystic fibrosis and their families. Their goal is to ensure everyone with cystic fibrosis receives the best quality of life and real hope for the future, with access to high quality, specialist care. To achieve this goal the Cystic Fibrosis Trust funds research to better understand and treat cystic fibrosis, review standards of cystic fibrosis care, and provide information and advice to the CF community. cysticfibrosis.org.uk/
