THE PUNISHING PACE OF FALSE RELIGIOUS (13) PROTESTANT AND MODERNISM In the late nineteen-eighties the Rt Rev. Dr David Jenkins, the then Bishop of Durham, denied major Christian doctrines including the physical resurrection of Christ. His Easter message in 1989 affirmed that Christs resurrection was only spiritual not physical.... It means a spiritual resurrection, a transforming resurrection. While many Bible-believing Anglicans were outraged over the bishops remarks, the Bishop of Manchester came to his colleagues defence by saying that Dr. Jenkins was not alone in his beliefs. Sadly, modernism is still deeply entrenched and influential in Protestant churches as we enter the second decade of the 21st century. DECLINE IN THE CHURCH Since the early 70s many Christians, including pastors, have felt compelled to withdraw from churches and denominations where the Bible is not taught faithfully and significant number of new evangelical churches have been established around the world.
