THE SORROW IN HIS EYES Can you imagine the agony of being beat and scourged Abandoned and denied by those you came to love and serve? Having skin and flesh torn off and leaving wounds untreated Then forced to carry a cruel wood cross, indescribably mistreated? Can you imagine the hurt and pain of dying on a cross Knowing that in hours to come your life would soon be lost Knowing too you’ve done no wrong, judged falsely and condemned For others’ sakes you must stay there, for their sins to amend. He had the power to call for aid, ten thousand angels waiting Listening but for one command, there’d be no hesitating. They would respond if He but asked, with flaming swords a flailing They’d take Him down and slay the ones with hearts so dark and failing. No thought of self but knowing He was giving life to others Hanging there upon the cross and seeing His precious mother Can you imagine His precious face, the sorrow in His eyes With you and I upon His mind as He thinks of us and dies? We were not there but our sins were as He took His final breath. We bear the guilt of hanging Him upon that tree of death If He had chosen to come down, to leave us on our own Then you and I would die in sin, with no way to atone. But through His death, the cold dark grave and blessed resurrection He gives to us the Way to gain eternal bliss in Heaven. If we accept His precious blood for sins’ debt to be paid We can be there to live with Him that bright forever day. Praise His dear name and give Him glory, He loves us oh so much. He suffered through to save our souls and gives His precious touch To those who will reach out to Him, from Satan’s clutches torn Ask for His mercy, die to self, repent and be reborn! Lowell P.
