THE STAR Saturday/Sunday 16-17/08/2014 MPs protest delayed debate on Ruto hired jet BY DAVID MWERE A section of MPs yesterday protested the delayed approval of the report on the Special Audit on the aircraft hired for Deputy President William Ruto for the tour of five West African countries in May last year. The investigations were done by the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee chaired by Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba with the assistance of the auditor general. The report was tabled in the House almost four months ago and lays blame on some senior government officials in the Office of the Deputy President and wants them to take responsibility for the illegal procurement process. Suba MP John Mbadi led the protest and urged the speaker to use his powers to ensure that debate “on such an important report is given a priority” as per the House rules. “As members of the committee and after seating for many days investigating the matter that brings accountability, this report has not been brought to this House for consideration. We need to discuss this because some of the officers implicated are still occupying offices and may cause much damage,” he said. Ababu said the delay was intentional and expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which the report, which was tabled in April this year, has been handled. “As PAC we want to express our grave dissatisfaction on how the report has been handled without giving it priority... If you look at the order paper it is the oldest order on the schedule,” he said. The matter is expected to feature prominently during the Speaker’s Kamukunji on Tuesday(Tomorrow). However, according to the standing orders, the speaker can order the rearrangement of the House business to have important matters given priority in the Assembly
