THE STRUCTURE OF ISLAM Look at Islaam and what it has become while holding dearly to what it should be; it is a structure, complete with its pillars, five for worship and six for creed, and its roof, the Sharee’ah maintained by a single leader, the Khaleefah. But Islaam has been wrecked and ruined, having become like the lone columns emerging from the Greek and Roman soil; it has been wrecked and ruined by years of disunity and disobedience; it has been wrecked and ruined by the introduction of beliefs and principles not originally of it. Islaam is wrecked and ruined, just as Ibn Mas’ood said it would be. It is reported that he said: “A year shall not pass except that the one after it is worse than it; I do not mean that one year is more fertile than another; nor that one has more rainfall that the other; rather, I mean: your best people and your scholars will pass away; then there will come a people who will compare important matters to their personal opinions; so Islaam will be wrecked and ruined.” Though so many are quick to defend their scholastic master, will they not even heed the prophecy of their collective master (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallama) who said: “My ummah [nation] shall divide into seventy-odd sects; the worst of them as a fitnah [test] against my ummah are: a people who will compare important matters to their personal opinions; they will forbid the permissible and permit the forbidden.” [Related by al-Bazzaar, at-Tabaraani, al-Haakim: Saheeh; Ibn Hazm: Saheeh] His saying (and that of Ibn Mas’ood) that they “will compare” is yaqeesoona in Arabic, the verbal form of “Qiyaas” [now considered by most to be a fundamental principle in Islam!]; when will people realize that comparing Allah’s rules to human thought only attacks the clarity of the Sharee’ah? When will they realize that Allah’s revelation is sufficient?! When will they follow as they were commanded and not follow as they were forbidden?! If not, they will continue comparing and Islaam will continue to be wrecked and ruined.
