THE SUNSET OF (PAROCHIAL) MALAY NATIONALISM Dyana Sofya was my - TopicsExpress

THE SUNSET OF (PAROCHIAL) MALAY NATIONALISM Dyana Sofya was my batchmate from the same primary school I was in: SK Taman Melawati (2). As far as I could recall, we were never placed in the same class. I knew her not in person, only from afar. Perhaps she knew me better as I was her Timbalan Ketua Pengawas (Deputy Head of Prefect) then. From my limited observation, she was seen and regarded to be a nice Middle-class Malay lass. Whatever she claimed in the letter that published by Malaysiakini was definitely right. Our childhood experience studying at SKTM (2) was definitely the best of National School could offer. First and foremost, let me pay homage to her courage and bravery - regardless whether she is on the right side of history or not (though she claimed to be on the right one) - for dare to stand-up against the Ancien Régime. I believed she does that with utmost conviction, based on her (limited) knowledge and understanding, for she has really stood up for a cause. And we must salute any person for doing that as the adage goes: those who dont stand for something will for anything. DAP is one kind of party that has the ability to call a spade a spade. Such quality definitely attracts Dyana Sofya who was shocked - as she claimed - to see and experience in her undergrad years in UiTM. I am not alarmed by what she claimed. We, Malays, are reaping what we have sown through the bad seed of parochial Malay Natioanlism that is bereft of Islamic ethos that lauds gilded life and short-termism of here and now. Dont cry a river when many more youths like Dyana Sofya who had turned their back to UMNO/BN and jump in drove into the bandwagon of PKR, DAP and PAS. This is a democratic country. She has the right to be in whichever camp she wants to be as long as it falls within the ambit of the Law. If we disagree with her and her party DAP, one must be valiant and chivalrous enough to battle with her and DAP and prove them wrong with proper adab and intellectual decorum - as exemplified by my teacher, Tan Sri Prof. Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas in his younger days confronting Dyanas boss - Mr. Lim Kit Siang and other DAP politicians. We, the true and apparent heir of the glorious Malay Civilization must come forth and in the Quranic spirit of ja’a al-haqq wa zahaqa al-batil inna al-batil kana zahuqa to reclaim our deserving-right to be on the TRUE and REAL side of history. God is Just! Way forward: tajdid and islah Malay Nationalism. We shall meet later on the same theater, God-willing!
