THE TROUBLE WITH ANAMBRA STATE Coming back from my Saturday - TopicsExpress

THE TROUBLE WITH ANAMBRA STATE Coming back from my Saturday shopping (went to buy food items shaa, but shopping na shopping), my attention was drawn by my care-free driver and friend to the unlimited number of campaign posters of different individuals who want to rescue Anambra State. The number of posters and individuals was uncountable that I nearly called my dad to make sure his poster is not among those contesting for the governorship of Anambra State come 2014(no jokes). But the big question is, are all these men coming out in the best interest of Anambra State? I remember when Peter Obi came up with his many slogans, one of which is ‘Anambra, are we cursed or are we the cause?’ Well based on his performance, many of us can now answer that question very well. My fear simply lies in the future generation. All these old men who are nearing their end of days always have the best agenda for the youths and widows (I wonder when that conjunction started) in this state, but the earnest truth is that many of them have no standing structure in their father’s house or village. I’m a positivist and I strongly believe that Anambra will get better, but with the calibre of men coming out to contest this election, I doubt if we will ever get better than this. The trouble with this state is simply the fact that all men feel they’ve read the 48 laws of power and can therefore manage the government. The citizens also felt they’ve mastered the art of seduction with which to make these gullible politicians spend their money and return back to their business after election, having lost woefully. Many of these governorship aspirants have NGOs’ and claim to be donating millions of naira to the less privileged in this state. In the words of a great American past president, I pray all of you to please, continue donating to charity and forget about political offices. LIE LIE, I know that one is highly impossible because you do that just to gain people’s trust and empathy during the election. The trouble with us citizens is that we have failed many times to define what we want from our government, and that is why we ‘may’ continue to be led by mediocres’ and political jonny-just-come. I know as many as 50 contestants (On last count) are gearing up for the show down in 2014 and I am sorry for my attitude towards three or four of them who have sent their recognition in trying to buy attention. As youths in Anambra State, I know our future is very bright. And I cannot because of a peanut sell my bright promising future to a sycophant who can’t spell his name (its’ that bad) to be my governor. I believe come 2014 that we will speak with one voice and make the right choice. And as we continually approach the promised land, I pray for God’s grace for this race, so that when we get there, you will pass me a glass of water and thank God for his benevolent mercy. MBN
