THE TSWANA TIMES......Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU)s National Organising Secretary, Johnson Motshwarakgole has hit back at the Botswana Congress Party Youth League President Dithapelo Keorapetse who openly called him a champion of spliting uniouns during a Press conference that was held by his party on Monday morning at Botswana National Productivity Centre(BNPC). Saleshando and his company are not telling the truth, the truth of the matter is that they as political parties came to us and asked us how they can help us and which model we the workers prefer they run with and we advised them to take the Umbrella model. This was during the Public servants strike across Botswana in 2011 so he is not telling the truth when he says they are the ones who came up with the idea of the umbrella model, charged Motshwarakgole. He added, I was even sent by the union to the then involved political parties when the talks collapsed because of the disagreement over allocation of constituencies, i went to see all the involved parties including the BCP who i met at the Botswana National Productivity Centre(BNPC) and they made it clear that there are distancing themselves from the talks but after i adviced them from doing so they promised to discuss it further as BCP then they will get back to us but that is still to happen. When responding to the allegations BOFEPUSU have been endorssing UDC,Motshwarakgole said they dont endorse UDC ,UDC is their idea. People need to ask themselves why is it that Saleshando is the only one saying we are not the people who approached them on the idea of the umbrella model, he concluded. Speaking at the Press conference on Monday morning Keorapetse said Motshwarakgole participated in the spliting of the Botswana Federation of TradeUnions (BFTU) in 2010 leading to the disaffiliation of the five main public sector unions which subsequently formed the Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU). He said Motshwarakgole always thinks he can negotiate better alone whenever other unions trie to meet and come up with a better negotiating strategy. Motshwarakgole needs to look at himself first before blaming us for not being involved in the UDC,he has never been a champion of unity like his is trying to make people believe but he has been a champion of spliting unions, said Keorapetse. He charged, We have a problem right now at the University of Botswana(UB) because he is never partof us whenever other unions trie to come on the table for negotiation because he feels he is better at negotiating when he is alone. Meanwhile the BCP President Dumelang Saleshando said BOFEPUSU has recently stated that they are not endorsing any political party. He said his party came up with the resolution to merge with other political parties in 2010 and he anounced the idea openly for everyone to hear and he finds it interesting that people have suddenly chosen to forget that. Mr Motshwarakgole is a very well known member of the Botswana National Front (BNF) so he has a right to campaign for the party but in his personal capacity not under BOFEPUSU and it is not true what is being said out there that we were approached by any party with the hope of building an umbrella party. The truth of the matter is that our party is the one that approached other parties with the idea independently in July 2010 when BOFEPUSU was not even there, said Saleshando. Saleshando said they have a lot of members in BOFEPUSU and they would like them to stay in the union so it can continue advocating for them because they as BCP have nothing against the union. If indeed it is true that BOFEPUSU is in favour of parties that have merged together why would they chose UDC since we too have merged with 6 other political parties, is 6 not greater than 3? So it cannot be true that they prefer parties that have come together, concluded Saleshando. I JUST LOVE THE WAY OUR REPRESENTATIVES R ABLE TO COUNTER ANY ATTACK BY ANY ENEMY......VIVA BCP VIVA
