THE YORUBAS AND THE EDOS (THE TRUTH) I am writing this because someone called me an outcast, a descendant of oduduwa because I am Bini..... To him, its obvious oduduwa was the first man on earth and not Adam and Eve (According to what we were taught) The Benin history never recorded nothing about Oduduwa. To us, Oduduwa doesnt exist and we the Binis from Edo state, formely known as Bendel state (Edo and Delta) are not descendants of Oduduwa. People need to read wide before coming on social media to call me an outcast... There are three major tribes in Nigeria... Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa.... they are called major because they are the majority but that doesnt mean other tribes are under them. I do not have a problem when people call me Yoruba or Igbo....Infact I am mostly called omo Igbo here in Lagos......I dont see any problem with that cos we are one, one Nigeria but calling me an outcast lol? Jesus..... funny Benin founded lagos and ruled lagos. Lagos was a Benin town with a Benin Oba who paid tribute to the Oba of Benin. The Benin empire ran Lagos for over 400 years before the colonial powers took over. Oba was adopted from Benin not the other way round as many made to believe. There is no king of Yorubas people. and if there is, what is the name of his title? and how many Yoruba prominent traditional leader/ruler carried the title Oba? since when? if Yoruba called king Oba doesnt mean will derived our king name (NOba) from them. Everyone has a name for king in the their native language/tongue. The Oba of Lagos is Eleko of Eko not Oba, the British changed it to Oba. the Origin of word oba is Benin Where is Yoruba ancient flag before 1897? Yoruba had no flag but Benin Yes. And you call us descendants? Oduduwa who Yorubas call their founder was actually Prince Izoduwa ( Ekhalederan) the only son of the last Ogiso of the first Benin dynasty-Owodo who was banished so that his father could have other children. Now have you ever wondered why other Africa historical states only have Benin on their record not OYO empire. I have never doubted our relationship with the Yorubas. Everything natural points to the fact that they are our cousin. What I however disapprove is when they attempt to use their privileged premier schooling by the whiteman to re-write history by distorting the true one and concocting a fake one that undermines the superiority of the old Benin empire over their city states. Note: history is subject to scientific diagnosis and many historic writtings in the past about Benin yoruba have been proved by archaeologies and scientist as erroneous and false. Please read the real history of the Benin Kingdom and find out we are not outcast or descendents of Oduduwa. Benin is a Kingdom of its own.
