THERE ARE, ALWAYS, ATLEAST TWO SIDES TO A STORY The Sikhs look different, have their own religion, customs & practices and youd recognise a sikh anywhere in the world. Yet, they appear to merge in quite well, from China to Canada! And, till the advent of Khalistan nowhere were they singled out as a separate community. How come? The Parsis are a miniscule community, understood to be extremely conservative & close-knit. Bollywood thinks they are funny...and portrays them as such...yet you find pockets of Parsis in most metros and they dont seem to suffer racist attacks. Why? Both Bollywood and TV media lampoon the Tamils...but Tamils are well-entrenched everywhere...including Maharashtra, despite sporadic sniping by the Shiv Sena! How? What about our neighbours, the Bongs? They are the butt of racist jokes in lots of places (not least, in the Northeast!), but they still manage to have their own paras and Durga Puja everywhere! How? The Sikkimese, the Nepalese, the hill-tribals from Kumaon & Ladakh... many of whom have features similar to our own brethren from the NE - THEY seem to get on quite well in places like Delhi & Bangalore (except, probably, when they are mistaken as Northeasterners!)...How? So whats with the Northeasterner? Whats so special that HE/SHE is the one to be singled out for racist attacks in Bangalore? In Delhi? TIME TO INTROSPECT...I THINK... WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY, AND THEY ARE US
