THEY HEARD YOU LOUD AND CLEAR!! Thanks to all of you who signed the Civic Green Petition and contacted Beaufort City Council members, City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to end the development contract for “River Place”, and to not go forward with the rezoning request! This is a great win for Beaufort and you…and it could not have happened without your support! While this vote stops River Place and all current efforts to rezone the Marina Parking Lot to site, it does not, however, protect the site permanently. That can only happen if Civic Green continues in its efforts to build on and enact the vision which you supported when you signed the Petition language below: “Support a new vision for YOUR PROPERTY: permanent use as public open space, gathering space, marina facilities and family recreation, and an expansion of the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park – while preserving YOUR spectacular water access and view. We believe this alternative vision will actually bring more economic prosperity and allow you to enjoy YOUR PROPERTY to the fullest.” Civic Green will continue to try to build support for this type of permanent vision which you support. Please stay tuned. You might wish to contact your City Council members to tell them thanks for stopping River Place development, and to please, please consider the alternative Civic Green “vision” as set forth in your Petition, as a permanent solution for this site.
