THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT NOAH…OR CHRISTIANS Bible-based movies have been hitting the “big screen” and the “home theatre” for years. As I look back, I can see that I have learned some very important lessons. First, I better be the first Christian in line at the theatre. If the movie is not entirely accurate, I’ll be told not to watch what my brother and sister did (for two hours!). And if I do, I’ll probably be chastised for neglecting their counsel. Second, Christians are as good as anyone else when it comes to promoting second-hand information. Many will make their decisions purely on the advice of others (and that too is often second-hand). Third, Christians are all over the map when it comes to Bible movies. Some are grateful for any movie that attempts to bring the Bible to life. Others will cast it aside if there is anything inaccurate in it or if it doesn’t synch with their preconceived views. (Considering how short the story of Noah is in the Bible, a producer will have to add a lot to fill in 2 hours!) Fourth, we all know that a good number of the Christians who speak out against a new Bible movie will eventually watch it—after it comes out on DVD or television. As they say, “Time heals all wounds.” I have to go now. The popcorn is ready and Facebook “reviews” are still streaming in.
