THIS IS A CALL TO ARMS! THOSE BRAVE SOULS WHO WOULD BE A DUNGEON MASTER READ ON! WE NEED YOU! Has the new rules set for D&D gotten you all pumped up to play? Do you desire adventure in a land of magical creatures and daring deeds? That’s fantastic! We would love to have you play. But are tables are full so too bad. That’s a terrible thing to say but it is the horrible truth! We have so many players and so few DMS we have had to turn away a great many people from our Encounters session. We desperately want to change that and so we are calling for some people to step up and take on the mantle of Dungeon Master. You may be asking yourself if you have the power within you to be a fantastic world class Dungeon Master that will changes the lives of everyone that sits at your table. That’s a good question to ask but a better question is Would you like to have fun with a group of like minded people once a week and create lasting memories that will keep you warm in the lonely bleak wasteland of old age? If you answered yes to either of those questions (or feel that the answer is a strong maybe) then please consider volunteering to be a Dungeon Master. Here is the nitty gritty on what you need as a Dungeon Master: 1. A willing heart. You really have to want to do this a halfhearted DM makes for a halfhearted game and nobody will have fun. 2. A set of dice. Players usually don’t want the DM touching their dice cause they are superstitious and weird. 3. The Dungeons and Dragons Basic Rules PDF. This is a FREE pdf of the rules that is available at the D&D website. (dnd.wizards) 4. Commitment to be there every week. This is easily the most demanding requirement. If you say you will run a table and then disappear that means all the people who would be playing at your table are now orphans and we may not have room to fit them in at others tables. We play Wednesdays from 6-8 maybe a little longer depending on how the adventure for that night goes. 5. Patience. Sometimes you will have younger players who may not have the same attention span or deep understanding of whats happening at the table. Sometimes you will have older players who may not have the same attention span or deep understanding of whats happening at the table. These games are open o all players regardless of age and ability so it is certainly going to be a mixed environment and that can be frustrating at times. But remember the point is not to have an perfect tactical encounter with the lich and his army of undead orcs or to smoothly role-play your negations with the duke over paying you for extermination the bandits. The focus is to always have a good time and enjoy the game. That’s it! Some of you may notice that experience is not necessary. This is true. Granted some experience running a game is preferable, as long as you are willing to put in the time and you have read through the rules we have enough experienced DMs around to help you through any bumps in the road. Materials for the adventure will be provided by Wizards. And usually require maybe an hour of prep time outside of the actual game night to go over the adventure. Our goal is to get a group of DMs ready so that we will be able to handle new players as they arrive. Ideally we would have more DMs available then we actually need. Extra DMs could then cover a week or two if someone needs to miss a night. Extra DMs could also sit in on a table if they are not needed and play the encounters as well. Our goal is to be able to accommodate as many people as we can and keep the table sizes down to 4 or 5 players. On Wednesday night August 13th we will have a night to meet and greet all the new DMs and go over the adventure, the settings and character creation rules. We will be able to answer any questions you might have about running a table and go over any concerns.
