I have seen comments and articles where different great football followers in here have been debating on what would make our season kick off with us playing the football we all know this squad can give, which we havent really given if we want to be honest so far. Our passing at times is very poor, the scintillating runs and shows of skill, individual brilliance that weve seen under Roberto Di Matteo and Rafa Benitez are not there anymore, albeit at a price of conceding and dropping points under the two managers, though conceding of abominable goals if we are being honest still plaguing us. So the question is what is wrong? My own opinion is the way we are set up to play and the personnel involved in executing Joses game plan, there are times he sets us up poorly and we suffer from it in the first half only for the great man to pull a masterstroke in the second half with his sub to atone for his mistakes, why set us up that way in the first instance? Cardiff and Norwich anyone? Spurs and City? Theses are games where if another manager was in our dugout we might have dropped silly points, but the question is why did we get into that situation in the first instance? Our manager stated at a point that he has been seeing our games for months before he took over, so what are the things he saw as our weaknesses? Mata doesnt track back? Fair enough, Oscar is more suited as our no.10? Fair enough, what else? What about the pivot pairings of Lampard and Ramires? Mikel and Ramires? I am sure he mustve seen their deficiencies, he had a couple of months to solve that problem but unfortunately we still scream and rage about how slow our pivot is every time and I begin to wonder if it is really the problem. Honourable Chelsea fans, this is not a slating of the team or manager, but highlighting my frustrations so far and offering a solution Ill want us to debate about, is our squad that weak or the truth is Mourinho cant work with these set of players? My guess is leaning towards the latter from what I have seen so far, it seems this squad lacks the ingredients of a Jose Mourinho steely type of squad with most of our top stars diminutive players with hardly any substantial physical attributes or athleticism. Is 4-3-3 the way? I believe a 4-3-3 formation can solve our problem on the pitch in some games depending on the team we are playing, if it is applied intelligently depending on the personnel selected we can blow teams apart especially teams that park the bus, Cech-Azpi- Luiz, Terry-Cole-Ramires-Oscar (LM)-Mata (RM)-Hazard (LW)-Willian(RW) and Torres are hard-working, skilful and creative enough to wreck havoc on unsuspecting teams most especially with their pace and pressing in the first half, Mourinho can tweak with the squad by yanking one of Mata or Oscar off for a defensive Essien or Mikel if we are leading depending on the teams we play, Mourinho is a master tactician, but his ego shouldnt allow him not to work on what his predecessors have built so far which is playing Mata-Hazard- Oscar at the same time, where Rafa only succeeded in winning the Europa league with them, Jose if he stops being obdurate about starting Lampard (with due respect to the legend) and stop dropping Mata who can perfect their game (Hazard-Oscar happens to play better) and make us enjoy watching the amigos again, his defensive selections are all there when we lost to Basel home and away, Newcastle and drew with West Brom too, his record is almost identical to the other two previous managers with the only difference being Chelsea fc standing 3rd on the log of the PL table, I believe we can play better, I believe the players can give more, but the truth is these players are currently not playing up to their best (Hazard, Oscar and Mata) they are the best combination at a point in Europe, a 4-3-3 can make us play them all together at the same time with positive results. What do you think guys?
