THIS ONE IS FOR MY FELLO PROMOTERS AND EVENT MANAGERS IN BOTSWANA.......this comes at a time when i have found out the DNA to the near no show of the Annual Beach Party Botswana this past weekend. One promoter was happy with the state of affairs until 3pm...it left me wondering where the industry is going? How dare he be excited of another promoters adversity, yet his bread and buttered by the same poweres that be....Promoters, lets wake up and call a workshop, we can all contribute...here are the hard facts!!!!!(1) do the powers that be give information on time to cancel an event, answer is no, they arrive like the albatros, when event revellers are at your door step (2) Who is the power that be, who controls or reguates the entertainment industry, is it cos bots, bw police, council, landlord, chief, ur fans, min of youth, burs etc? reality is, anyone is boss, the elements change like weather, you think you know it all, the answer is no!!!as law abiding citizens, isnt it time a constitution is written to control us so no one changes facts and we are found wanting gapping for air like a police dog? (3) wher is our national pride? we can pay a foreign artists over P40 000 upfront, buy airtickets, book accomodation, buy them liquour and maybe even girls (pardon me, true) but we cant even pay a local dj a mere P500 as a half deposit booking fee. (4) Your reputation is spoiled by a foreign artist who didnt show up, yet you paid them fully, and you cant take them to task, justice has to be served!!!what do you think they say, PROMOTERS IN BOTSWANA ARE MORONS!!! On the same note, instead of me asking my fellow promoter the status of that particular artist, I go hire him, am i any better? (5) In these tight economic times, how many sponsors can our gigs get, you be the judge. Wat hapens next, we go backstabbing each other (6) Do we respect or know the proverb of kgetsi ya tsie e kgonwa kego tswaraganelwa? chances are no or we dont even know it!!! with the small population that we have, does it make sense for us to make 5 big gigs in one town on one day? chances are people will dedicate the song ke lela le lona by franco to all of us as we will be languishing in debt. Would you rather call yourself a 100% gig owner and flop with debts or be a 20% shareholder and go home to your wife or girlfriend with a clean p10 000.00, no stress of payment calls......lastly, where is the respect gone to guys.....the folowing names are used examples and not real name...zaine aftermath organises a gig and has a concept, I look at it and tell my self, i think I can turn this silver concept to gold, the question you must ask yourself is this:- is the pens down from 5yrs ago that headlined groovy souls, kuchi etc stil have the same vibe, you be the judge. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, WE ARE KILLING THE INDUSTRY IF NOT ALREADY DEAD. May we please call ourselves to order by calling a workshop in January 2015. As people go to work, a weekend will do, but im talking serious stuff, not around drinx, or braai stands or girls......what happened at beach party must not be taken for granted. We as SPINCITY have been thru that road, Beach party organisors nearly went that rugged road, next it might be you. United for change, I nominate Duncan of groovy Souls to be the interim chairman until the 1st meeting. You can suggest names or we can adopt him....Aluta continua
