THOSE IN WHOM GOD DELIGHTS AND INVITES TO WORSHIP HIM. The prophet Isaiah, speaking that which God commanded him to speak, describes the humble and contrite spirit/disposition as characterizing those in whom God is well pleased as being invited to worship in his house/household/family, Isaiah 56:1-7. I have heard preachers say that God does not command us to worship him as if worship is an elective which can be practiced or ignored with no consequence. This is false on the surface. God has informed us in several ways of the necessity of worship. Let us look at one of those ways. God referred to his house, or family as a family of prayer. Prayer is a synecdoche: a part put for the whole. Prayer is a part of worship, placed for the whole of worship. In short, Isaiah prophesied that Gods family would be known as a worshiping family. Why? This is what pleases God. Worship, based in character of a wholesome, spiritual life of one walking before God, Psalm 15, and Psalm 24. God expects this of His people. If God reveals that this is what he expects from His people, do his people need a specific command before we realize our responsibility to worship? To ask is rhetorical? Wanda and I shall worship this morning. Although the miles separate,I know that we shall be of the same spirit as those who worship in spirit and in truth. We invite you who may not be consistent in your worship to become so and be able to unite with us in one spirit as on other occasions we lift up our hearts to God and offer him the sacrifice of our heart, lips, and life upon the altar of Christ. What a wonderful day that would be. Help make it happen. Reach up to God in humility and contrition, and reach out to His children in peace and love.
