Answer: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder might be causing your pain. This disorder may be caused by bad posture, trauma, stress, teeth grinding/ clenching, and muscle imbalances about the joint. Some Physical Therapists have experience and training in the mechanics of the TMJ and surrounding muscles and joints. He/she can evaluate your head, neck and jaw mechanics and posture. From these findings, and often in conjunction with your dentist, an individualized treatment program can be developed, which includes education, exercises, treatment, and self management strategies.
