THURSDAY: Shared Weight - Stories of the Vietnam War Tune in - TopicsExpress

THURSDAY: Shared Weight - Stories of the Vietnam War Tune in tomorrow morning for two episodes from Shared Weight, our series showcasing voices and stories of individuals from all sides of the Vietnam War, thirty years after its end. At 9:00 we bring you the story of the five Gilchrest brothers, four of whom were actively involved with the war in some way but who had never discussed it among themselves before our interview. Listen in as former congressman Wayne Gilchrest and his four brothers – Jeffrey, Alan, Richard, and Clifford – reflect on how they were affected by the war and how their views of the world evolved in the years hence. Then at 10:00 we turn to the stories of two writers: poet George Evans, who served as an Air Force medic and was the first soldier in Vietnam to defeat his court martial, in a tale that could have come straight out of M*A*S*H; and the late Lynda Van Devanter, an Army surgical nurse in 1969 and 70, whose memoir Home Before Morning: The Story of an Army Nurse in Vietnam inspired the TV hit series China Beach. steinershow.org/features/shared-weight/
