THis is what I have learned recently. New York City has A LOT OF RACIAL ISSUES and my sweet friend La Toya explained to me that I have experienced a lot of what I have experienced because of the regentrification in NYC, so when I lived in Spa Ha in 2006 with RHi and there were protests and racial remarks, and in Bushwick and now BedStuy its partly because people look at you and take their anger and frustration out on you because they feel like you are moving in on their territory and pushing them out of their neighborhoods and leaving them with nowhere to live. I was on the Q 24 bus the other day, I asked the driver what his last stop was he said Patchen, It sounded familiar, but Iwasnt quite sure, so I asked him if it was before DeKalb or after because I was getting off at DeKalb, he said he didnt know where that was. He didnt go to DeKalb. It was me and two elderly black men and the bus driver on the bus, neither of them knew either. When I hesitated to get off before Patchen, the bus driver told me he couldnt help me to get off the bus. One of the two old men yelled you arent entitled, get off the bus. I couldnt believe it. I got off, went in a coffee shop and another bus driver happened to be in the coffee shop. I told him what just happened. He drove the same route. He said DeKalb was one block down from Patchen and every driver on that route knows that. He said he just didnt want to help me. I rode the q24 today and the first question I asked the driver was if he knew where DeKalb was and he said yes. So, I feel very uncomfortable in areas that are undergoing these changes, and there should be affordable housing for everyone, and everyone should be able to live where they feel safe and not threatened. That may end a lot of the problem. THey call NYC a melting pot, but it really isnt a melting pot, its more like a stew, with chunks of different veggies and meat all stirred around in the same broth, but still separate chunks scattered around. It makes life unpleasant sometimes, but very interesting at other times, because where else in the world can you walk around or sit on a bus and hear conversations in different languages.
