TIB#23: EMPOWERMENT / AYS – split 7EP This release is going to feature one original and one cover version of a German punk classic by both bands. I am really excited that AYS decided to cover Liebeslied by Die Toten Hosen as between 1987 and 1989 Die Toten Hosen were –by far– my favorite band. On May 8th, 1989, I saw Die Toten Hosen play at Circus Krone in Munich. This was after Youth Of Today [Official] toured Europe. I remember drawing huge Xs on my pants before the show, and I refused to sing along to all songs that promoted drinking. This really ruined the fun for my friends [and somehow even myself, haha]. The show at Circus Krone was pretty much the last time I ever listened to Die Toten Hosen as I exclusively listened to hardcore at the time. So after listening to Liebelied as covered by AYS many, many times, I put on Bis zum bitteren Ende for the first time in more than 25 years, and I still can sing along every single word. What a great record! Anyway, the EMPOWERMENT/AYS split 7EP is going to be out on October 31, 2014.
