TIME FOR A MOM UPDATE: Last weekend my oldest brother was suppose to come visit on Saturday. He arrived on Sunday afternoon and received lots of ribbing due to the fact he got lost in Chicago several times. (to explain there was a snow storm, even the Chi towners were only driving 20-30 mphs, and Russ hates Chic town and rarely goes there, never without a co-pilot). Mom was doing really good during his visit except lots of repeating herself, and I dont think Russ ever got her to answer some of his questions since she would get this blank look on her face like she had no idea what he was talking about. He left Monday morning. She is getting help with showers, dressing and the dressing change on the ulcer to her ankle. I just really cant make myself be the one to hurt her during the changes right now. If I need to I will change the dressing though. I did get orders for pain and anxiety meds. Have been giving the pain med every twelve hours for comfort but she said that she really was not having a lot of pain since it started. For the last two nights she has been really restless and up several times. Last night she finally admitted her ankle was hurting more. So I gave her another dose of pain med and a dose of the anti-anxiety med to help her relax. Will talk with the nurse today regarding a better schedule. She has been seen sleeping more lately. Hospice protocol really doesnt do any testing, but I would like to know if her RBCs were dropping again, but that is only the nurse in me. And the test would only help me maybe, not her. Just a selfish want so I could judge her health and status a little more. Getting to feel like this journey she and I are on will be harder on me emotionally. More updates to follow.
