TIP: Rain Rot on horses is a very common skin condition. My two rescues Ladybug (Clyde) and Allie (Thoroughbred) the one pictured here were riddled with it. In fact what you wont be able to see from the photo Allie was so bad she didnt have an inch of skin not affected. This looks like fuzzy fur but actually came off in plaques with much infection underneath when we had a chance to clean her up. One of my clients horses was about to be put down because his family had about given up on him they couldnt get on top of the rain rot with the use of medications and harsh topical applications. The secret to getting rid of rain rot is fixing it from the INSIDE OUT! It is not unusual for many horses to get rain rot at some point in varying degrees sometimes nothing more than few spots. This means your horses immune system needs some help. With the help of homeopathy, tweaking nutrition and adding antioxidants along with local cleaning of the area with warm water, olive oil and a tiny bit of tea tree oil we were able to get rid of the rain rot quite beautifully. So never give up on a horse with a skin condition. The skin is the biggest detox organ and if its acting up for whatever reason always look at diet and helping balance immune function. Sad to see some horses put down for such a treatable condition!!! Note: In the photo on the left was Allie only a few weeks after the rescue she was VERY thin and sick when I got her...shes doing wonderfully well (her now in the second photo) and enjoying being Teddys love of his life! :)
