TNA strategists are troubled that William Ruto has been trying to overshadow Uhuru Kenyatta in critical national issues. According to them, this is costing Kenyatta political space and profile for 2017 while bolstering Ruto rating. In order to reduce Ruto influence, TNA insiders have succeeded in getting Uhuru to contradict Ruto in any single national issue that Ruto takes a position on like government. Further, there is heavy investment to schemes that can drastically reduce Ruto influence in Kalenjin land. According to NIS basic survey before CORD rally in Eldoret, Ruto following has reduced by between 35-40%. Key Kalenjin political players who have direct connection with Moi have been working behind the scene to get majority Kipsigis and Nandi chart a different political path and enhance their future negotiations. Conspicuously, significant members of the National Assembly form Kalenjin community have kept off Ruto functions. According to the insiders, Ruto has been arrogant and mishandling Kalenjin interests. Ruto is viewed as a ‘rent operative’ of the Kiambu group to the disadvantage of the Kalenjin. The Kiambu group is integral part of this downsize Ruto political strategy. Most importantly in all these schemes, Moi still has still issue with Ruto.
