Ensuring a positive environment for Small Blacks Rugby is at the heart of New Zealand Rugby’s APPLAUD programme which will provide clubs and schools with various tools and initiatives including: • A charter and code of commitment to promote a positive environment for rugby. • A range of collateral and promotional material featuring Richie McCaw and other All Blacks. • Posters, stickers, wristbands, referee bibs and ‘My Parents are Ugly’ book and activities for schools. All Blacks coaching clinics for Small Blacks players, airport welcomes, community events and a trophy tour are some of the many community events in Auckland, Christchurch and New Plymouth fans can look forward to during the build-up to the Steinlager Series. New Zealand Rugby together with Auckland, Canterbury and Taranaki Provincial Unions, and the regions’ city councils are adding to the excitement of the Series against Rugby World Cup finalists France with a range of colourful events for fans and the local rugby community. All Blacks Captain, Kieran Read said the team was excited about getting out and about in the lead-up to the three Tests against France and meeting their fans. “While, the team is very focused on delivering the right performance on the field the players certainly appreciate the huge support we get from our fans and we looking forward to seeing then out and about during the Steinlager Series.” The All Blacks will also hold coaching clinics for selected players from Canterbury and Taranaki junior rugby during the Steinlager Series. Read said it was important for the team to spend time with the rugby stars of tomorrow. “We will be sharing some of our training tips with some of the Small Blacks players in both Christchurch and New Plymouth and will also be taking time out to talk with the kids about why they love the game.” Fans are encouraged to come out in force to greet their All Blacks heroes when they fly into Christchurch (4pm Sunday, 9 June) following this weekend’s opening Steinlager Series Test match in Auckland. Members of the All Blacks squad will also be out visiting schools and business as part of a series of competitions each of the host cities are holding, calling on fans to show their support by painting their city ‘All Black’. Fans are also encouraged to grab their camera and check out New Zealand’s iconic rugby trophies including the Webb Ellis Cup, Bledisloe Cup, Rugby Championship and Gallaher Cup which will be on display in various locations during the Series.
