More information on: alliance.org.za For 35 years, Dominique Wolton has been doing research in numerous areas that illuminate the future: the individual and the couple, work, the media, the public sphere and political communication, information and journalism, Internet, Europe, cultural diversity and globalization, knowledge and communication. All these themes are at the heart of contemporary debates, often pleading against the current conventional wisdom, revealing Woltons insight and intuition. His research contributes in particular to the promotion of the original conception of communication which emphasizes rights and democracy rather than technology and economics. It broaches this fundamental question: how people can coexist peacefully -a possibility that we have come so close to realizing, thanks to the rapid development of modern technology, but which somehow remains unattainable. Rethinking the relationship between the individual and the group, between sameness and difference, it regenerates political thought at a time of ubiquitous communication.
