TONY ABBOTT WANTS TO BRING BACK WORKCHOICES! The Abbott Government must immediately rule out attacking the penalty rates, allowances, minimum wage and other working conditions of workers in Ipswich and the Somerset region which were put squarely on the governments chopping block yesterday. The Productivity Commission yesterday accidentally released a suite of five issues papers of the review Tony Abbott ordered into Australia’s workplace relations laws, the blueprint for the Prime Minister’s revival of Workchoices, the Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann said. “Labor is concerned that this review is the opening salvo in the Abbott Governments impending all-out assault on workers’ wages and conditions,” Mr Neumann said. “Penalty rates, allowances, the minimum wage, spread of work hours – the issues papers accidentally released yesterday reveal that these are all in Tony Abbotts sights. Before the election, Tony Abbott promised that workers pay and conditions would be safe under a Coalition government. He promised Australians that Workchoices was dead, buried and cremated. Those promises - like some many of his others - are in tatters. These issues papers clearly show that Tony Abbott desperately wants to revive Workchoices, Mr Neumann said. Hes dug up his industrial relations monster and has it on the gurney, electrodes attached, ready to shock it back to life and unleash it on Australian workers. Workers in Ipswich and the Somerset region should remember that the Abbott Governments last review of workplace laws, through its Commission of Audit, recommended a reduction of the minimum wage by one per cent a year for a decade in real terms. Given the history of the Liberal Party, and this Prime Minister, workers should be very concerned about the outcome of this new review. “Coalition Governments, whether in Canberra or Brisbane, can’t help themselves when it comes to attacking workers’ rights. Its in their DNA. “The Abbott Government’s agenda is crystal clear - a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work is under threat. Labor doesnt believe that the Abbott Governments race to the bottom in industrial relations is good for workers and their families, their employers or the economy. Labor believes that sustainable and fair economic growth is better achieved through investment in skills and training, infrastructure, innovation and entrepreneurship.
