TOP 8 Name: Britany Hamilton Ministry: Agriculture Branch: Deputy Minister’s Office Job Title: Administrative Assistant My name is Britany Hamilton, and this summer I am working as an administrative assistant for the Ministry of Agriculture in the Deputy Ministers Office. Of the countless reasons why I love my work with the Saskatchewan Government, I’ve selected the following 5: #1 Location: my office is located in the Walter Scott Building found in the heart of Regina’s Wascana Centre. I love working in the Walter Scott because it is conveniently removed from the hustle and bustle of downtown, yet it is a short distance away from desirable amenities (free parking doesn’t hurt either). While I work I can simply gaze out the window and enjoy beautiful park views. During my breaks I go for walks with my co-workers, read in the sunshine, have picnics and occasionally go for a run around the lake. #2 Being exposed to all areas of my ministry: working in the Deputy Minister’s Office has introduced me to the different branches within the Ministry of Agriculture and given me a general understanding of their functions. This has opened by eyes to the nature and scope of activities ongoing in my ministry and allowed me to see a real link between my contributions and the ministry’s larger objectives. I have also had the opportunity to work in other branches, which further broadened my interest into new areas. #3 Working in a professional environment and gaining practical experience for my future: a major reason why I love my job is the opportunity to work in a real professional environment and to gain meaningful job experience pertaining to my area of study. I love that I am able to earn a competitive student wage and actually build the skills and connections that will advance my career. #4 Attending student workshops: I love that the government goes beyond simply employing students by offering information sessions and professional development workshops designed for students. In my experience these workshops and sessions allowed me to meet and network with other students and professionals and learn about the many opportunities available in government. #5 The people: I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to meet and work with so many amazing people who have made me feel like part of their family. youtu.be/YaUPcFk3rnc
