TOPIC: CHRIST, THE ONLY HEAD OF THE CHURCH Eph.1: 22 - 23; Col.1: 18; 1 Cor. 15:27 - 28 Eph.1:22-23: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. Col.1:18: And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 1 Cor. 15:27 - 28: For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. Introduction : Calvary Greetings to you beloved and Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ (Eph.1:1). It is my pleasure to get back to you in the work of my Father in Heaven. I pray God Almighty to use His Words to transform your life so that all your efforts as you struggle to serve God will not be in vain(But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.Matt.15:9). But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. (Lk. 13: 27) When the word CHURCH is mentioned, most of us focus our attention on the physical building, but this is not true. The word “Church” is from the Greek word “Ecclesia” meaning “The called out”- Col.1: 13-14, 2 Thess.2:14. Jesus Christ promised in Matt.16:18 that He will built His church: Not anyone to build a church (like The General Overseers of the man-made churches all around us) - Dan.2:28, 44, 10:14, Zech.1:9, 16; Isa. 2:1-3, Joel.2:28-32, Micah 4:1-4, Hos.3:5 The fulfillment of the prophecies about the establishment of the church are seen in (Mtt.16:13-19; Acts.1:2; 2:1ff, Lk.3:1-3; 24:46-49; Mk.9:1; Jn.16:7). THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH: HEAD has reference to control and center of reference. Christ is the Head of the church (His) and this headship cannot be taken from Him (divinely planned) - Col.1:18, 24, Eph.5:23. As our physical body is controlled by the head, so does Jesus want to spiritually control our life. As the only head of the church, Jesus demands absolute control over those who submit to His will. He can have no competition in the area of headship. For this reason: “No other person should religiously control your life on earth other than JESUS CHRIST- 1 Cor.3:10-11” Jesus exercises His control (Headship) of the Church by our voluntary submission to His word. We submit because we have accepted Him as the only way for our salvation-Jn.14:6; Acts.2:36-42; 4:12. Jesus’ control of our lives means freedom from the doctrines and commandment of those who would I intimidate or cause fear in our hearts-Mk.7:6-8; Isa.29:13; Gal.5:1 Since Jesus is the only head of the Church, there can be other head that would distract His absolute leadership in your life. But God put all things under His feet- Eph.1:22 Now that Jesus has all authority, there should be no other authority that would compete with Him in our Lives- Mtt.28:18; Hb.12:2; 1 Tim.6:15. Angels and authorities and powers are made to subject to Him (1 Pet.3:22). The ways in which Christ is the Head are: 1.He is Head in Authority- Eph.1:21; Phil.2:10-11; 1Cor.15:23-24 2.He is Head in Example- Pet.2:21-23; 1 Jn.2:6; 1 Cor.11:1 3.He is Head in Love- Jn. 13:34,35; 14:33-34; 15:12; 1 Jn.3:16; 4:19 NOTE: 1.It is now very clear that an individual man cannot and should not be the Supreme head of any Church as is seen in the world today. Thus, anyone who claims to have been called by God to establish a Church is a liar and is doing all he does to have people to worship and serve him in his own favor and that of his immediate family and future generation. 2.People who claim they have been called by God to begin a Church are only but lying against God. This is why they claim to be (General Overseer; Superintendent; Bishop; Founder) so that the assets of the Church will belong to them and their family, even as their family is made to take over the Church when they die. 3.Only Jesus Christ has the authority to be THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH. CONCLUSION: Since Christ is the head of HIS CHURCH, we must be careful of the things we do in the church and learn to submit to Christ in all things-because whatever you do either to destroy or keep the church is being done to Jesus Christ. When we come to Christ for our lives to be corrected, we must submit to His absolute control. He, Not any man, must have our total commitment- Phil.4:8; 1 Tim.4: 11-16. It is my pleasure to inform you that you can only be saved in THE ONLY ONE TRUE CHURCH (Eph.4:4) that belongs to JESUS CHRIST which is THE CHURCH OF CHRIST (Rm.16:16).
