TRANSFORMATION AGENDA; FROM SHOELESSNESS TO MOON JOURNEYS By Tyover Gum Then it was about shoelessness with the passion of a man who was truly shoeless and it was in that voice that betrays a tongue familiar with the saltiness of sweat. Nobody heard of IBB and OBJ. The overwhelming goodwill for the new kid in the block from Nigerians was enough to drown their domineering unctous egomania. He toured the land and rained endless promises about stable electricity, good roads, schools, transportation system, proper health, security... He won. Clean. But those are now long gone days. He now owns enough Jimmy Choos to shame Mrs. Marcos Ferdinand. He now calls IBB my father and sends emisaries to OBJ. If he did so well by the people why didnt he go back to the people -the same way he did the other time? He knows he failed them. But hes on the prowl again for votes and for lack of reasonable things to say this time shocking qoutes are emanating on alarming utterances made so far. In Abeokuta he promised We will send this crop of Nigerian students to the best universities in the world! How about making your universities one of the best in the world? But then the winner from Abeokuta was I will send this current crop of Nigerian students to the moon! You dont know it to laugh or cry! How do you send people to the moon when youve not succeeded in generating stable electricity, drinking water and reducing terrorism? He now has so much shoes that he has forgotten Nigerians are still shoeless! Not for once in Abeokuta did he mention the peoples needs. A foreigner might be misled to think the country generates atleast 10hrs of electricity/day and learning of his promise of sending people to the moon and realising Nigerians lack treated drinking water and still die in thousands from malaria, typhoid and Boko haram attacks will be forgiven if he considers our president delusional on schizophrenic proportions. To say he will send his students to the best universities in the world -and not make his own universities line among the best- is in itself an admission of the hopelessness inherent in his our education system. And for a former university lecturer with a PhD, MSc and Bsc degrees this is some serious indictment. This metamorphosis from a shoeless politician promising electricity and fresh air to a careless demagogue promising moon-journeys to citizens whose only dependable source of dirty electricity are tiny Taiwan-made generators is proof of 6yrs of confused, uninspiring leadership. At Abeokuta the closest he got to his former self was a bogus promise about creating 2milion jobs/year and this too is another lie and to to buttress this white lie he said, Elumelu is on on this. You know these are serious business people. Why are politicians like that and this one like this? We hear he once said the rot in the system is so deep that it will take time for people to notice any appreciable change on the system but can same be said of jobs? How many years does it take to SEE created jobs? How many jobs has he created for the past 5years? Why boldly promise 2million/year? He mentioned Sure-P and a lady voice in the background chimed in, 3000 jobs so far and they are all here! and a few hands errupted in the air. Is there a conspiracy to always get thinking Nigerians angry whenever these guys come on TV? Which 3000 jobs? In Ogun state? For the whole Federation? When Gov. Amaechi claimed he has employed 13000 teachers did we not SEE these teachers and even KNOW many of them down to their homes? President Jonathan has said enough to make him lose this election. Nigerians are not idiots en mass. A man who campaigns for relection after 8years in office need not be telling voters what he WILL DO if re-elected. Instead he should be telling them what he HAS DONE and how he intends to CONSOLIDATE on them. Instead we hear such unbelieveable otiosities like, If I jail all the corrupt politicians who will be left to run Nigeria? And as if aware he talks too much nonsense, the president while at Abeokuta second guessed himself saying, You know me, I dont talk any how. I dont make promises I dont fulfil. How does one define cognitive dissonance? Who does not know that among other promises the man has endlessly promised the end of Boko haram even as the group gets bolder? Making promises and finding excuses why he cant deliver or never even recalling making them not to talk of fulfiling them is President Goodluck Jonathans forte. As for not talking any how what then is this nonsense we hear he said about Buharis inability to recall his phone number? How about the one about How much did Jim Nwobodo stole.....? If the president said these things then he sure talks anyhow! The president says he has a Transformation Agenda but he didnt tell us the agenda was only about Transforming himself from shoelessness to astral travels! Not for him anymore the mundane profanities of promising good roads, hospitals, and electricity. Maybe the people hes planning to take to the moon are no longer dying in thousands from Boko haram and malaria attacks... Or he simply does not Give a damn! If the elections are free and fair, President Goodluck Jonathan shouldnt win. Even if the people are fools and blind to the many failures, they are not deaf to his endless goofs -which put in perspective are glaring insults to the electorate. He can go to his moon alone. President Jonathan ought not be returned to Aso Rock and this not because there are better alternatives but because the PhD degree-weilding president must be told that power resides with the same people he insults and lies to at every turn. If returned home to Bayelsa state as deserved his replacement will KNOW he too can be sent packing in 2019 and so work harder to solve our problems. And this will also serve as a lesson on fidelity to not just the PDP but the flock of senseless politicians swirling like vultures and making endless promises about town. Please people, call it a protest vote, a sympathy vote or whatever, just send this man and his party home. We are not in that era where stupid, escapist cliches like Rome was not built in a day find acceptable tolerance anymore. We are in the era where things are done with feverish urgency and with serious poise and purpose by the best hands available. If elected, I will reduce terrorism will send any politician crashing out of any election anywhere in this world save a madhouse full of of idiots, schizophrenics and zombies. Lets tell the world we are not zombies and ours is not a mad house.
