TRANSIT UPDATE: Hello Everyone, I wanted to provide you an update on the transit lockout. I share all your concerns that have been expressed to me regarding transit running and the need to provide the service to the citizens. ATU and the City are bargaining again today. Both parties have also agreed to mediation and my understanding is that process will begin as early as tomorrow. Transit needs to be running again and both sides need to do everything possible to make that happen. ATU and the City need to sign a contract. The administration and ATU are working together to find a solution that is acceptable to both sides. This is a process that needs to happen and it is a process that has implications for every citizen of Saskatoon. A number of you have expressed concerns about different points in the media and have questions about specific topics. This link should answer a number of those questions: saskatoon.ca/DEPARTMENTS/Utility%20Services/Saskatoon%20Transit/Pages/LatestTransitNews.aspx All the information regarding transit pass refunds can be found here: saskatoon.ca/DEPARTMENTS/Utility%20Services/Saskatoon%20Transit/Pages/TransitPassRefundInformation.aspx I want to commend the U of S for creating the Park & Ride System for the staff and students. My goal is to have an agreement and transit running again as soon as possible. Until then, I have asked the administration to report back on the possibility of relief lines running down the major corridors using the downtown bus mall as a hub. I would anticipate that we would seek agreement to do this from ATU so that it does not negatively impact the bargaining. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything. In addition, I will be doing a formal enquiry at the next council meeting to start the process to hopefully have Saskatoon Transit Services declared an essential service Regards, Darren
