TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey officials say a nurse who was quarantined after working in West Africa with Ebola patients is being released. The state Health Department said in a statement Monday that Kaci Hickox had been symptom-free for 24 hours and would be taken on a private carrier to Maine. N.J. Gov. Chris Christie also tweeted out the Health Departments statement about Hickoxs release on Monday: From @NJDeptofhealth: Since testing negative for Ebola early Saturday morning, the patient being monitored in isolation... (cont — Governor Christie (@GovChristie) October 27, 2014 ...has thankfully been symptom free for the last 24 hrs. After being evaluated by CDC & her clinicians the patient is being discharged.” — Governor Christie (@GovChristie) October 27, 2014 “She will remain subject to New Jerseys mandatory quarantine order while in New Jersey.” @NJDeptofhealth — Governor Christie (@GovChristie) October 27, 2014 Hickox has complained about her treatment in N.J. and was talking about suing. She was the first person forced into a mandatory quarantine in the state, announced Friday by Christie for people arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport from three West African countries. In a Dallas Morning News op-ed on Saturday, Hickox criticized her treatment, saying no one seemed to be in charge while she was quarantined. I wondered what I had done wrong, she wrote. Hickox also criticized Christie during a call with CNN on Sunday. First of all, I don’t think hes a doctor. And secondly, hes never laid eyes on me, Hickox said. Norman Siegel, a prominent civil rights attorney, told the New York Times Sunday hed been hired by Hickox to file a federal lawsuit over her quarantine.
