TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF THE LATE MR. JAMES LASSEY LARTEY BY MEDASS OLD STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (MEDASSOSA) GHANA “For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed But my kindness shall not depart from you Nor shall my covenant of peace be removed says the Lord who has mercy on you” Isaiah 54:10 The sudden demise of our father, mentor and teacher came to us as a shock, with some finding it difficult to believe. Mr. James Lassey Lartey, aka “SCHOOL FEES” a retired teacher of the Tema Methodist Day Secondary School (MEDASS) is a man every student cannot forget. This man was an inspiration to all and sundry and by his style of teaching, brought mathematics, a subject feared by many a student, to their door step. Mr. Lassey Lartey has taught several students for over twenty years in MEDASS rising through the ranks to the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics. Mr. Lassey Lartey was a disciplinarian, time conscious, sometimes philosophizing with treats to get things done. Indeed he was the most feared member of staff and one dare not misconduct him / herself with Mr. Lassey around. He has a great sense of humour which endeared him to students. He was a hardworking man who always encouraged us to take our studies seriously. He would add that we must make our parents proud for that is the joy they would derive from our success as students. Today, many of us in our various professions cannot boast without the mention of Mr. Lassey Lartey’s immense contribution. Although death is inevitable in everybody’s life, it is not without purpose. There is a grand design hidden behind it. Death is a tool through which the universe signals our evolution to a higher plane. Every time we accept circumstances of this nature, we also summon the courage and the means of overcoming it. Now the labourer’s task is over Now the battle day is past Now upon the farther shore Father, in thy gracious keeping Leave us now thy servant sleeping Sir, you have served your generation with your calling as a Teacher. You have achieved your task. Even though you are gone, our individual experiences with you shall never depart our memories. At the scene of your demise was a MEDASSOSAN - if man has the power to comprehend, unravel the mystery of death and conquer it, one of your own would have done that but that was not meant to be. Sir, MEDASSOSA salute you. To us, you were a great man. The thousands of mails on our wall on Facebook give credence to this. Thank you for being a blessing to us. To the family, we say may the Lord strengthen you for this great loss. Sir, we believe you are resting at the Saviour’s bosom because you are an ardent Christian. Till we meet again, God be with you. Rest in Perfect Peace Great Teacher Baaba, baaba baaba nawo
