TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 24, 2014 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Fatal Crash on Greenwell Springs Road Central – Shortly after 2:15 am on May 24, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 37 (Greenwell Springs Rd.) south of Morgan Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 23 year old Tyler R. Carter of Central, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Carter was driving a 2013 Hyundai Genesis southbound on LA Hwy 37. For unknown reasons Carter’s Hyundai crossed the centerline of LA Hwy 37. The Hyundai then exited the roadway to the right and struck a utility pole. Carter was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Driver impairment is unknown at this time, and a toxicology sample was taken from him and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use, especially during a busy Memorial Day weekend. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Contact Information: TFC Jared L.
